Time for Cong, TDP to take decision on T issue

The by-election results in the state have made certain the possible emergence of the YSR Congress Party led by Mr YS Jaganmohan Reddy as a regional political force to reckon with in state politics.

Besides, the results have clearly established that the Telangana sentiment among the Telangana masses has further strengthened and that the BJP has also established its credentials as a pro-Telangana party in the region.

The results have sent a clear message to the two main political parties, Congress and the TDP, that the people have not taken the ambiguous stand of these two parties towards Telangana for granted.

The Telangana people have given four more seats to TRS in the assembly by electing its candidates in Kollapur, Station Ghanpur, Kamareddy and Adilabad in the by-polls and serving a warning to the Congress leadership that its failure in taking a decision over the T issue would no longer be tolerated.

The victory of BJP candidate Yennam Srinivasa Reddy in Mahaboobnagar has, however, sent shivers down the spine of the TRS leadership as it may have to face a fierce competition from the national party in representing the cause of Telangana.

Till now, only TRS has claimed it is the sole representative of the Telangana sentiment while BJP will henceforth stake its claim that it also shares the honours of being a champion of the Telangana movement.

Despite the ongoing CBI investigation into the alleged amassing of wealth by Jagan, the Kovur voters had voted for his candidate Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar reddy in the by poll indicating that the Congress and TDP have a formidable challenge ahead in retaining their political identities.

The point to be noted down is that the Congress party and TDP have miserably failed in convincing the people that their stand on the issues faced by the state was correct. The congress simply procrastinated on the issue of T without taking a decision on some pretext or the other while the TDP also put a brave face saying both regions are important to it.

The flop show by these two parties makes one thing very clear that it is high time they took clear decisions on the T issue without wasting any time. (J)
