To make Tamil Nadu open defecation free state and to create hygienic villages, Chief Minister Jayalalitha hiked the state government’s contribution for the construction of Individual House-Hold Latrines (IHHL) from Rs.1000 to Rs.2,500 under the Total Sanitation Campaign.
In Tamil Nadu, 73.3 per cent of rural households are resorting to open defecation. The national average is 49.8 per cent and the state’s average figure is 45.7 per cent.(msn)
