On the eve of May Day also known as Labour Day, Tamil Nadu Governor, K. Rosaiah, Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha and opposition leader M. Karunanidhi extended their ‘May Day’ greetings and best wishes to the working community.
In a message, Governor K Rosaiah said, "It is not only a day for looking back at the history of trade unionism and for looking forward to the future for more employment, but it is also a day to pledge to enhance the working practices on par with international
standards."
Rosaiah said the working community is "the prime movers of nation's growth."
Extending her greetings, Chief Minister Jayalalitha exhorted them to extend their support to realize her goal of making Tamil Nadu, number one state in every field.
The ruling AIADMK would distribute Rs 50,000 each to 106 indigent labourers belonging to the party's trade union and Rs 1 lakh each to 12 families of labourers who lost their lives on the occasion, she said.
DMK chief M Karunanidhi, in his message wished prosperity to the working class and said that "laws and policies pertaining to the welfare of the working class should be enacted at all times."(msn)
