Roughly one-year after the gruesome Nirbhaya gangrape case appalled the entire nation, it's about time that her debauchers meet their fateful end, literally.
The fast-track court headed by Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna will roll out judgment against four of the six accused in the heinous crime — Mukesh Singh, Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Gupta, today. One of the accused, Ram Singh, had hanged himself to death in police custody in March this year,while the juvenile rapist was sentenced to three years in correction facility by the Juvenile Justice Board, a light verdict for committing such a heinous deed, many opine.
The fast-track trial that has been on over the past seven months witnessed over 100 effective hearings.
The 23-year-old physiotherapy student was fatally assaulted by six men inside a moving bus in Delhi in December last year. If indicted, the accused are likely to get life imprisonment or death sentence, based on how the court interprets the culpability of each of the accused. Their parents, however, are hoping that their sons escape the gallows.
The police had booked six persons for raping and murdering the student on December 16, 2012.
Ahead of the verdict, the victim’s father told : “We hope that this court will take a better view of the case.”
