The state has repaid Arizona the money it sent to keep Grand Canyon open during government shutdown.
The National Park Service was refunded $651,000 for keeping the popular tourist destination open for a week. “Federal lawmakers reached an agreement on the budget before those seven days were up.”
A spokesman for Gov. Jan Brewer confirmed that Arizona received a refund of $186,000 on Friday. The refund cash was split between the state tourism office and the Tusayan town.
The spokesman further said that Arizona will request its congressional delegation for the remaining $465,000 to be reimbursed.
