Lupita Nyong’o’s’ $150K fake Oscar dress was returned by the thief. He said that he and others took 2 pearls off the dress to sell in the garment district, but to their dismay it was found that those were not real ones. The thief said that it was almost worthless, though the police document stated the dress to be studded with real pearls.
A $150,000 costume – made Calvin Klein Collection by Francisco Costa dress, worn by actress Lupita Nyong’o at the Oscars was stolen from the hotel , 2 days earlier, in which she was staying.
The 6,000 natural white pearl studded dress was taken from a London Hotel in west Hollywood when Nyong’o was out of the room.
The theft was executed in well planned manner.
Nyong’o, 31, last year’s winner as Best Supporting Actress for director Steve McQueen’s acclaimed movie about slavery, was there when investigators arrived.
Investigators believed, the gown was stolen between 8 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. They said that there was no forced entry and nothing else was taken from the room.
Nyong’o had changed to another outfit before heading to the Vanity Fair post-Oscars party Sunday night.
White stated that the suspects might have found it hard to unload the designer dress.
