Wabang Jamir, Inspector General of Police, Nagaland said 22 suspects have been arrested on the basis of video footages that had gone viral. The suspects arrested on Monday have been accused in connection with the jail break and lynching of a rape convict on 5th March. He said that more arrest will be made.
Jamir also said that all the internet and sms facility have been blocked till Tuesday and it may be extended if needed. Video clipping that has gone viral has created tension, resulting in curfew all over the place in Nagaland.
Due to the curfew, people are facing the shortage of consumer items and medicines. Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has rushed additional forces to Dimapur and is closely monitoring the situation. Since the situation is unpredictable all Manipur bound vehicles have taken a detour to come through NH 37 via the Barak valley.
T.R. Zeliang, Chief Minister has admitted some administrative and intelligence failure during the March 5 chaos. His government ahd suspended three officials following the incident. He had also written a letter to the Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi informing him of the steps taken up.
The Inspector General said that curfew and blocking of sms and internet facility will continue till the normality is restored.
