Sanskrit is the primary sacred language of Hinduism, a philosophical language in Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Jainism, and a literary language that was in use as a lingua franca in Greater India and Kingdom of Nepal. Sanskrit is listed as one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and is an official language of the state of Uttarakhand.

The body of Sanskrit literature encompasses a rich tradition of poetry and drama as well as scientific, technical, philosophical and religious texts. Sanskrit is the language in which all the puranas and other Hindu texts are written. The beauty of Sanskrit can be enjoyed in its sweetness in pronunciation.

Sanskrit is the only language which does not have any kind of abusive words, instead it has only words which convey love and dignity. Sanskrit is a language which is has the tone of respect towards the other.

Critics used to address Sanskrit as ‘Mrutha Bhasha’ means dead language. But it is very much interesting to know that, even now there is a village in Karnatakw, where people speak in Sanskrit. Mattur is a village near the city of Shivamogga in Karnataka state, in India, which is known for the usage of Sanskrit for day-to-day communication, although the general language of the state is Kannada. Sanskrit is the vernacular of a majority of the 5,000 residents of this quaint, sleepy hamlet situated a little over 8 km from Shimoga. Here, ordinary shopkeepers and agricultural labourers speak in Sanskrit. Most of the children too speak the language fluently.

"The priest of [the local religious centre] Pejawar Mutt gave a call to make Mattur a Sanskrit-speaking village. It took just two hours daily for 10 days for the entire village to start conversing in Sanskrit," said Prof Srinidhi.

"Sanskrit is a language that teaches you old traditions and values. It's a language of the heart and cannot die," says Sanskrit scholar Aswathanarayana Avadhani.

Samskritam Sambhashana Sibiram is being in the valley by Samskrita Bharathi on 21 May and 22 May 2016 from 9 AM to 5 PM as per the convenience of the partocipants. The Sibiram is aimed at everybody who is interested to converse in Sanskrit. No knowledge in Sanskrit is necessary to participate. Knowledge in any of the Indian language such as; Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam, Punjabi, etc is enough to participate.

This Sibiram is aimed at speaking in Sanskrit. Daily cores of simple and frequently used dialogues will be covered to speak in Sanskrit. This simple knowledge will help anybody to converse comfortably in Sanskrit. Since Sanskrit is a language which has a tone of respect and is a language which does not have abusive words, will help the participants to mould their character and will help them in respecting others.
