Three Arizona breweries among 2016 World Beer Cup winners

Three Arizona breweries won top awards at the 2016 World Beer Cup competition, one of the most prestigious event by Brewers Association (BA) . Arizona's  Four Peaks Brewing Company from Tempe earned a gold medal, San Tan Brewing Co. won a  silver medal, while Flagstaff's Lumberyard Brewing Co. took home bronze medal.

The Four Peaks won medal for its Kilt Lifter Scottish-style ale and San Tan earned medal for its Mr. Pineapple. It is the fourth medal of Four Peaks in the World Beer Cup, however it is first for its flagship beer.

Charlie Papazian, founder, Brewers Association, said that, “Brewing has no boundaries or borders.”  “The World Beer Cup recognizes the very best in the global community of brewers their innovation, creativity and the craft of beer and brewing.”

“This year’s judge panel was our most international ever, with three-quarters of judges travelling to Philadelphia from outside the U.S.,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager, World Beer Cup.

“Judges commented throughout the week that overall beer quality continues to improve across the spectrum of world beer styles. While breweries may hold the awards, beer drinkers around the world are the true winners,”  Swersey said.

The World Beer Cup was introduced by the Brewers Association in 1996. It is one of the “most prestigious beer competition in the world” which, occurs every two years. Around  7,000 beers participated in multiple categories this year. BA is a  not-for-profit trade group, that aimed to promote and protect small and independent craft brewers of America.
