The state Department of Education is planning to reopen a Glendale private school for severely disabled students. The decision came after a reinspection found the school safe for children to use.
The Children's Center for Neurodevelopmental Studies was immediately closed on May 26 when officials found the school's student facilities had moldy bathrooms, exposed nails, cracked walls, and filthy floors during a surprise inspection.
Charles Tack, spokesman for the Department of Education, said that, the officials again inspected the school, located near
Glendale and 55th avenues after "the school indicated to us there had been some significant improvements."
According to a letter sent by the Education Department to the school's administration, all of the concerns raised in the surprise inspection "were remedied and as a result approval has been reinstated."
Matthew Benson, a spokesman for the Children's Center, said that, “The school feels vindicated." "They always believed that if they were given an opportunity to remedy the concerns that were brought that they would be able to fix those issues. They're just happy to have this chapter behind them.”
"We're pleased that this situation is resolved. We will always take action when something like this is brought to our attention," Tack said.
