Uber, Lyft start Phoenix Sky Harbor pick-ups!

The Phoenix City Council has allowed the ride-hailing services Uber and Lyft to pick up as well as drop off passengers from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport under a new airport ground-transportation policy.

The service is scheduled to be begin from June 18 after a Phoenix City Council decision. Bakari Brock, senior director of business operations and airports for Lyft, said that, “Folks have just been clamoring for this.’’

Chad Makovsky, assistant aviation director, said that, “We surveyed the top-20 U.S. airports in the nation and Sky Harbor is the only airport that has yet to modernize our ground transportation policy.”  “Some commercial operators are paying fees that specifically subsidize the operation of other competing businesses.”

“(The $6 fee) doesn’t sound like a lot, but if you consider the number of trips we do every year, it would total for us about $400,000 per year which is absolutely catastrophic to my business,” David Warren, owner of Blue Sky Airport parking, said.
