A shooting erupted outside Navajo County Superior Court in Holbrook left two women dead and a suspect in custody, officials say.
According to the Navajo County spokesman Adam Wolfe, the incident took place outside the building as the women were leaving and both the suspect and the victims had been at court for a hearing.
"We don't know his motive yet, we aren't in his mind." "We do know the suspect was involved in the hearing, and for whatever reason, it led to him opening fire," Wolfe said.
No employees of the court were involved in the firing and the authorities believe the suspect and victims knew each other, Wolfe said.
The attack, Wolfe said, was "personal, and not an attempt at a mass shooting."
The Navajo County Homicide Task Force is investigating the incident. While, Sheriff’s deputies and other officers responded to the scene.
"It will be a joint effort to get to the bottom of this, and make sure all the facts come out," Wolfe said.
"This is not common for this area at all," he said. "The area is family-oriented and very wholesome. When it first happened, we were all concerned for people's safety. Now we want to find out why. Anything like this will shake a community, but we will heal. That's what this community does."
