A Maricopa County Superior Court judge has sentenced a Maricopa County man to 283.5 years in prison for 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor while on lifetime probation for a previous sex crime.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, probation officers in 2013 found around 25,000 files of child pornography on James H. King's computer in a folder named "to be deleted".
The County Attorney Bill Montgomery said in a statement, that, “This sentence illustrates the seriousness with which Arizona takes crimes against children and is appropriate given the defendant’s prior criminal conduct and failure to take advantage of a second chance.”
“We will not tolerate a market for child pornography, whether we’re dealing with a user, a producer or a distributor.”
King, 49, was found guilty in 2003 to attempted sexual conduct with a minor and was sentenced to a year in prison and lifetime probation. Prosecutors said that, the case stemmed from a 1999 incident in which his 9-year-old niece reported that King attempted to grope her in the middle of the night.
He sentenced to 28 years in prison for each count of dangerous crimes against children, plus an additional 3.5 years for violating his probation, the County Attorney's Office said.
