Arizona for Trump: Pence meets McCain

The Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence met with Arizona senator John McCain amid a public feud between the Arizona Republican and presidential nominee Donald Trump. The Indiana governor and Republican vice presidential nominee was in Arizona on Tuesday for two campaign events.

The hill reported, Lorna Romero, a spokeswoman for McCain's campaign, said that, "Upon scheduling a trip to Arizona, Governor Pence's office reached out to John McCain to request a meeting."

"John McCain was happy to welcome Governor Pence to Phoenix, and they enjoyed a very friendly meeting, during which they discussed a variety of issues.”

The Washington Post reported, Trump declined to support McCain for the Arizona senate and said that, “I haven’t endorsed John McCain.” “I’ve never been there with John McCain because I’ve always felt that he should have done a much better job for the vets.” Trump said.

“He has not done a good job for the vets and I’ve always felt that he should have done a much better job for the vets. So I’ve always had a difficult time with John for that reason, because our vets are not being treated properly. They’re not being treated fairly.”

McCain said in a statement that, “In recent days, Donald Trump disparaged a fallen soldier’s parents. He has suggested that the likes of their son should not be allowed in the United States — to say nothing of entering its service. I cannot emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. I hope Americans understand that the remarks do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers, or candidates.”
