Two teenage girls were burned when a boat catches fire at Lake Pleasant on Sunday morning, Peoria Fire officials said. One in both victims was suffered burns to 50 percent of her body.
According to the Peoria fire officials, the emergency crews were called out to the lake before 9 a.m. after what appeared to be an engine compartment explosion involving a boat that was launching on the water.
Tim Eiden, Peoria Fire-Medical spokesman said that, just before 9 a.m. a family was attempting to start their boat when a flash fire started in the back where two 13-year-old girls were sitting.
There were four people and two dogs were on the boat at the time, according to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office spokesman Chris Hegstrom. The detectives are investigating the incident, he said.
One girl who suffered second and third-degree burns to 50 percent of her body was rushed to hospital, while the other one was transported by ambulance with first-degree burns to 12 percent of her body, Eiden said. A man, one of the girl's father, also sustained minor burns.
