According to Chinese media China cleared that, if India tries to increase the number of its long range intercontinental missiles, China may aid Pakistan to do the same.
The context for this message was India's successful final test firing of the Agni-IV intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Monday.
"If the United Nation Security Council has no objection regarding the ICBMs, then let it be. The missile range of Pakistan's nuclear missiles will also see an increase," the state-run Global Times said in an editorial, hinting that China may aid Pakistan to level missile range with India.
The Global Times's editorial further batted for Pakistan, saying it should be accorded the same nuclear privileges as India.
"If the West are accepting India as a nuclear country and if they are indifferent to the nuclear race between India and Pakistan, then China will not stand back and stick tightly to those nuclear rules as it is necessary. At this time, the Pakistan must have all those privileges in nuclear development that India is having," the Time’s editorial said.
On one side, the editorial claims that China is not at all bothered by India's testing of long range missiles which can carry nuclear warheads, but on the other side editorial did sound like China was unsettled by Agni-IV, especially as it came close on the heels of the successful test-firing of Agni- .
The editorial first said "...China does not feel that India's development had posed any big danger to it. And China does not consider India a main rival in the long run,"
The editorial said later, that China will not sit silent if India goes too far in developing ICBM’s. India has to understand that it does little good to itself if the Sino-Indian relations are ruined by any geopolitical tricks,".
Aside from these issues, the editorial alleged that India "has broken the UN's limits" on how many nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles it can produce.
The editorial also said that “America and few Western countries have also changed the rules of its nuclear plans and India is no longer pleased with its nuclear capability and now it is seeking ICBM’s which can target any place around the world and then India can land on an equal stage with the UN Security Council's five permanent members."
