Guadalupe Garcia de Rayos visited a Mass and said her prayers before her immigration check-in Wednesday in Phoenix.
Since her arrest and conviction in the year 2008 it was her 8th visit, she was convicted for using a fake social security number. After each meeting, the 35-year-old married mother of two was released and went to her family.
But this time things were different.
The undocumented immigrant from Mexico was detained on Wednesday (8th Feb) and was deported within 24 hours. Her lawyer claims that it was a direct result of the President, Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. But the officials of US immigrants and Customs enforcement claims that there was nothing special about the case. They said that she committed a crime and was placed under a deportation order. Her time had come in the United States, officials said.
Whatever the reason may be, Rayos said that she had no regrets about coming to the United States as a teenager in search of a better life nearly 20 years ago, not she regretted staying illegally and working under a fake social security number. She had no regrets about going to immigration check-in despite the risk of deportation under the Donald Trump’s executive order.
Rayos said in a press conference from Nogales, Mexico that the truth was she stayed in the United States for her children. For a better future. To work for them and she said that she does not regret it, because she did for love.
"I'm going to keep fighting so that they continue to study in their country, and so that their dreams become a reality," She said.
Rayos was turned over to Mexican authorities on Thursday (Feb 9th) at a border crossing in Nogales, Arizona.
Her attorney said to local news that Rayos might be the first person deported from Arizona under the Donald Trump’s executive order.
Her deportation has become a flashpoint in the debate over the new executive policy. That says any undocumented immigrant convicted or charged with a crime that has not been adjudicated could be deported.
Democrat Mayor of Phoenix, Greg Stanton called the deportation a travesty
He said that rather than tracking drug dealers and criminals, ICE is spending its energy deporting a woman, who has two American daughters and lived in the United States for more than two decades and poses a threat to nobody.
