US assured India of Speedy Justice to “hate-crime” victims

The United states have assured India that they are working will all agencies to ensure “speedy justice” to the Indian-American victims of “hate-crime” incidents.

The Indian Embassy in the United States tweeted "State Department, on behalf of US government, expressed condolences and assured they are working with all agencies concerned to ensure speedy justice."

Navtej Sarna the Indian Ambassador to the US reached out to the State Department to convey his “deep concerns” to the federal government on the recent shooting involving Hardish Patel and Deep Rai.

Indian Embassy officials are in constant communication with local police officials in both the cases.

The County Sheriff has pointed out that the death of Patel may not be a case of “hate crime". The Indian Embassy will remain in touch with the Sheriff’s office.

A consular official from the Consulate General of India in Atlanta has been deputed to meet the family and offer condolences and any required assistance.

"It is also in touch with the local community organization of expat Indians, including those from Gujarat," sources said.

Congressman Rick Larsen said that he condemns this hateful act, the shooting of a local man because he is a Sikh. We all must stand together," he said.

The concern over the safety of the Indian-American community has been raised after the slew of “hate crime” incidents in the United States.

43-year-old owner of a convenience store in Lancaster County, South Carolina, was shot dead in front yard of his home on Thursday.

39-year-old Sikh, Rai was shot outside his home by a masked man, who shouted “go back to your own country”, in a suspected hate crime.

It comes close on the heels of shooting in Kansas last month in which 32-year-old Srinivas Kuchibhotla was shot dead, when a 51-year-old US Navy veteran Adam Purinton opened fire at him and his friend Alok Madasani, yelling "get out of my country".
