In a record breaking snow and blizzard like condition, entire Eastern US is under deadly bomb cyclone. With snow pounding very brutal cold conditions in the US, the wind chill warnings are in place for entire Eastern Coast. This bombardment of frigid weather has brought sub zero temperatures to majority of US and a mix of snow and ice has blasted America.
The winter storm Grayson brings in historic cold conditions to even lower than -35 degrees celcius. This arctic storm dumped around 18 inches snow in some parts and this extreme weather has been linked with 22 deaths so far all across US. Wind gusts also hit more than 70 mph and rare snow fall in some areas have been reported.
The National Weather Service says, “light freezing rain is expected to develop very late Sunday night into Monday morning. Forecasters say less than a tenth of an inch of ice is expected, but that it's enough to make travel treacherous during Monday morning's commute”
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, bombogenesis or bomb cyclone “occurs when a mid-latitude cyclone rapidly intensifies, dropping at least 24 millibars over 24 hours. A millibar measures atmospheric pressure."
"This can happen when a cold air mass collides with a warm air mass, such as air over warm ocean waters. The formation of this rapidly strengthening weather system is a process called bombogenesis, which creates what is known as a bomb cyclone,” NOAA said.
The NWS said, “"This winter storm is forecast to bring the potential for a mix of freezing rain/sleet/snow from portions of northern Florida to North Carolina, and snowfall northward along portions of the Mid-Atlantic into northern New England,"
One of the warnings, for Vermont and northern New York, said, “The dangerously cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 10 minutes to exposed skin. Expect wind chills to range from 25 below zero to 45 below zero.”
“Arctic air mass and dangerously cold wind chills expected across much of the eastern two-thirds of the country through this weekend. Many daily temperature records may be broken,” the National Weather Service said in a tweet
The temperatures are expected to rise later part of the week and the snow and ice conditions to remain a cause of concern until, for traveling. Many flights have been canceled and diverted at major airports and it is likely to continue for a few more days.
The Eastern Coast has been worst affected by this bomb cyclone which has brought shocking amount of snow and ice to many parts bringing life to a standstill
