In a serious crash involving 3 adults and one child in North Phoenix, the child died Monday night and two others critically injured. The crash occurred near 18th street and greenway pkwy. According to Phoenix PD, “an SUV with a family of four inside was driving eastbound when it collided with another car with one person inside driving westbound. The force of the collision sent the vehicles off the roadway and into a block wall around a residence”
The SUV crashed into the backyard of Isaiah Compos. Greenway Parkway was closed from 20th to 16th streets for several hours.
Compos said, "I just heard people screaming and running around, they were trying to find their kids, they just kept saying I can't find my kids. One of the cars started to catch fire, so I went to my backyard to grab a hose to help out and I see the little girl in the back kinda just crawling around,"
All passengers except the driver were thrown out with life threatening injuries. 3 year old child was taken to hospital where he died later. Another 6 year old girl child is in critical condition. A neighbor Martina Anderson said, “It is heartbreaking. My daughter is only a month older than the little boy. We are going to miss his presence. He's a sweet little boy”
Another 33 year old woman’s condition is critical but stable. The remaining 36 year old and 20 year old man have non life threatening injuries being treated at the hospital.
Phoenix PD Sgt Vince Lewis stated, "When these ejections take place, it suggests that the occupants were not properly restrained. We are talking a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old. There should be some child restraint systems deployed in this situation and they weren't”
The cause of crash is yet unknown but impairment is being considered while investigation progresses.
