Following the US raid and the claimed death of the ISIS leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the Islamic State militant group, confirmed the news of the death of their leader via their news agency, Amaq revealed in an audio note that was released on Thursday, October 31st, 2019.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was an Iraqi jihadist was the one who rose and declared himself as the “caliph” of all the Muslims in the Islamic State. He was killed on October 26th, 2019 in an US raid that was done around in western Syria.
Following the death of their leader, the group was silent. According to the report suggested on Amaq, they have already appointed a successor to the group, someone by the name of Abu Ibrahim al-Hashemi al-Quraishi.
Aymenn al-Tamimi, who is a researcher for the Swansea University and who has been focused studying about the Islamic state suggested saying that this is an unknown name. But, they also believe that the same could be a top figure like that of Hajj Abdullah whom the US department has been eyeing to be the next successor to the ISIS committee following Baghdadi.
Tamimi said that it is possible that the successor could be someone that the authorities are already aware of but they have come up with a new name now.
The ISIS group which has been a reason of terror between the years of 2014 and 2017 and has also conducted crimes of atrocities against the Muslims also confirmed the death of their official spokesman, Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir. Baghdadi was killed in Idlib which is located in north-western Syria.
During the US raid, Baghdadi crawled inside a tunnel and took two of his children and killed all three of them by detonating a suicide vest during the process.
