Given the kind of impacts that climate change is imposing on our planet, it is the need of the hour that authorities and countries come together to pledge for a change for a better future. India is taking on the initiative in this case to call on the rich, industrialized countries across the world to further take the lead in mitigating the issues with the climate change.
India is urging these countries to come up with ways for curbing the persistent rise in the global temperature which is putting the planet to risk of omission. The only thing that India is urging is to fulfil the pre-2020 emission pledge that is expected to reduce the emissions and help provide with the much needed finance to the developing countries.
In an official statement released by the India government preceding the UN Climate Change Conference COP 25, it stated saying, “The pre-2020 implementation gaps should not present an additional burden to developing countries in the post-2020 period.”
India further clarified stating that if the developed countries failed to meet the much needed Cancun pledges to contribute their part in reduction of the emissions by the year of 2020, it is expected to put an additional burden on the developing countries across the world.
According to the UN Emissions Gap report, it clarified stating that the G20 countries are going to exceed their 2020 Cancun pledges while some of the remaining countries including USA, Canada, Indonesia, Mexico, Korea and even South Africa are going to fall short with their pledge goals.
India has also raised their voice asking the rich and developed countries to provide the needed funding to the developing countries as per the commitments. The statement also said that the collective presence of the adequate funding with the technological support is the factors that will finally end up influencing the overall progress with fighting the climate change.
Detailing its efforts and planning to slow down climate change, India further reiterated their plans with respect to climate change and how they are going to find better alternatives to fight through this condition effectively. It shared its goal of increasing the renewable energy resources and capacity to 450 GW. In addition to that, they also clarified and highlighted some of the collaborative efforts that they are going to do with International Solar Alliance to further increase the overall solar energy capacity.
Some of the other steps that India is currently focused on is with the International Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure which is a renowned platform known for generating as well as exchanging ideas and knowledge on the prospects of climate and disaster resilience.
Focusing on climate change and the diverse effects it is imposing on the world is something that needs to be talked about without further delay whatsoever.
