On November 27, 2019, the heinous act of brutality that happened on a young veterinarian in Hyderabad left the state and the entire nation in a state of shock. Four men were accused of raping and then murdering the victim, setting her body ablaze. Following the crime, the four accused were arrested and put into custody.
While there have been protests and candle marches across the nation and even the world, the need for justice for the bereaved had taken a priority for the citizens across India. In recent news, it has been reported that the four accused, Mohammed (26), Jollu Shiva (20), Jollu Naveen (20) and Chintakunta Chennakeshavulu, who were arrested two days back, have been shot dead in an encounter.
The police reports that the encounter happened early in the morning when the accused criminals tried to flee from the crime scene where they were taken for the process of reconstruction for the ongoing investigations.
The encounter that was conducted left a mixed emotion in the people’s minds across the country and even for the Indians staying abroad, who have kept themselves updated with the progress of the case.
The four accused were being taken to the scene of the crime around 3 in the morning for the reconstruction process by the Hyderabad police. The police informed that they were shot dead on the spot when they were trying to escape.
In retrospect to this event, the victim’s father issued a statement saying, “It has been 10 days to the day my daughter died. I express my gratitude towards the police and the government for this. My daughter's soul must be at peace now.”
Even Asha Devi, the mother of the rape case victim that took place on December 16th, 2012 backed the police stating that they did a very good job not sparing them. In an issued statement to ANI, she stated saying, “I am extremely happy with this punishment. Police has done a great job and I demand that no action should be taken against the police personnel.”
Asha Devi, who has experienced years of delay to get justice for the crime that was inflicted upon her daughter said that she is happy that justice was served and without much delay. She also pleaded to the judiciary to hang her daughter’s rapists at the earliest as well.
Adding to the string of congratulatory messages for the Telangana Police, popular Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor also tweeted out his congratulations for the police taking the necessary steps required for the justice in the case.
But, as we did mention, the recent turn of events did strike some mixed emotions in the people’s mind. Karti Chidambaram took to twitter to address the issue, stating his opinion on the subject matter stating, “Rape is an heinous crime. It must be dealt with strictly under the provisions of law. While I hold no brief for the alleged perpetrators of this dastardly act, "encounter" killings are a blot to our system. While I understand the urge for instant justice, this is not the way.”
Even reputed senior lawyer Vrinda Grover urged the people to understand that the steps taken by the Telangana police is completely unacceptable. She clarified stating that the Trigger Track justice is not the way to go. In a Facebook post, she further mentioned saying, “SAY NO TO TRIGGER TRACK INJUSTICE! This is absolutely unacceptable. So all that the state will do in the name of ensuring that women live as equal and free citizens is to add to its arsenal of unlimited arbitrary violence!”
With the news reported by the police just mere hours ago, it isn’t surprising that the entire nation is still processing everything around this. While some are congratulating the act, some are just not ready to accept this as a possible justice.

No questions should be asked & fingers raised on those #Telanganapolice personnel’s who have shot all 4 rapists & killers. Instead should be awarded with the highest police awards for their act of bravery. #justiceforpriyanakareddy achieved.
