A toddler injured as random gunfire struck on New Year’s Eve in Phoenix backyard, said police on Wednesday. The police said that the toddler of three-year-old has been recovering after he got hit by a random gunfire and they say that the toddler is expected to survive.
The officers are still in search for whoever fired the shots. Though the reason behind the gunshot is not yet known, shooting guns into the air as a part of celebration is a longstanding practice is some places.
The practice turned to be punishable in Arizona, two years ago after a 14-year-old was killed by a stray bullet in 1999 in Phoenix. Since then, the police have been warning people about the gun fires on holidays. A system called as ShotSpotter can also be used which pinpoints the location from where a gun has been fired.
