Superstar Aamir Khan and his ex-wife and director Kiran Rao recently met Chief Justice of India D.J. In an interview, Aamir revealed that the decision to produce 'Laapaata Ladies' was driven by both 'fear and desire'. Looking back on his career, the actor and producer said: “Maybe I still have 15 years left in my active career, so I wanted to make up for it.” "Industry, society and the country have given me a lot. I thought I could do one film a year, but as a producer I can support multiple stories that are close to my heart" told Aamir Khan.
Known for supporting socially relevant films, Aamir stressed his commitment to promoting new voices in filmmaking. “By producing, I can provide a platform to writers, directors and everyone involved in the process so that we can see more films like this”. Chief Justice Chandrachud also asked about the inspiration behind the film, to which Kiran Rao replied that everything was with the original script by Biplab Goswami began. Aamir discovered the script during the 2020 Writers Guild competition and decided to acquire the rights to it. “It was a long and uncertain journey due to changes in the film industry,” said Kiran, explaining that we added more humor to a dramatic story.
Despite the recommendation to release the film directly on OTT platforms, they decided to release it in theaters. Kiran said, "This film has been welcomed by the audience and we are excited to bring it to the big screen". Laapataa Ladies is the story of two newly married women who accidentally board a train heading to their husband's house. The film did very well at the box office and became an even bigger hit on Netflix, breaking several viewing records.
