Here is the oat recipe which I learnt from my aunt residing in New York. As it gets all the flavors of any traditional Indian Biryani, the recipe is named as Steel cut oats Biryani. Steel cut oats used in this oats recipe are healthier than the regular oats. The recipe gives you the goodness of steel cut oats, spinach, tomatoes and soy chunks as well. Isn’t it a complete meal that can prepared in a quick time? Try out this and turn to healthy diet and thereby healthy lifestyle.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ingredients required for Steel cut oats Biryani
Steel cut oats: 2 cups
Spinach: 2 cups
Onion, medium-sized: 1chopped finely
Small tomatoes, medium-sized: 6 chopped
Soy chunks small sized: 1 cup
Ginger (small piece) and garlic: 1 table spoon
Green chilies: 2 or 3 small ones chopped
Cloves: 3 – 4
Cinnamon stick: small piece
Cardamom: 3 to 4
Coconut pieces: few
Dhania powder: 2 teaspoons
Cumin (jeera) powder: 1 table spoon
Few spoons of ghee, salt
Cashew and almonds: a handful
Method of Preparation of Steel cut oats Biryani
1. Take 5 to 6 table spoons of ghee in a thick bottomed pressure cooker. Add and saute onion pieces, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon.
2. Once they turn little brown, add chopped tomatoes and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Add spinach and cook for 5 minutes. Add soy chunks and cook for 2 minutes.
4. Add salt, dhania powder and cumin powder.
5. Add the paste made of minced ginger, garlic, coconut pieces and green chilies. Cook for five minutes.
6. Now add oats, mix well, cook for a minute.
7. Add 2 cups of water to 1 cup of steel cut oats.
8. Place the lid and let it cook for 10 minutes.
9. Meanwhile sauté small pieces of cashew and almonds in two spoon ghee. Add these to the steel cut oats Biryani after it is done.
10. Steel cut oats Biryani is now ready to serve.
