It was indeed a one of its kind of a wedding that the world has ever witnessed – it was a wedding between a centenarian man and his nonagenarian partner. Truly love knows no age!
Jose Manuel Riella, 103, tied the knot with his partner of 80 years, Martina Lopez, 99, in a ceremonial wedding at their home in Santa Rosa del Aguaray, around 200 kilometres (124 miles) north-east of the capital Asuncion, on Sunday.
The bride in a white gown and the groom in a dress-shirt took their vows hand-in-hand as the priest conducted the wedding before a huge gathering of family members.
“Lopez and Riella have eight children, 50 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and even 20 great-great-grandchildren,” revealed the local media.
The couple had a civil wedding 50 years ago, but never really had a ceremonial wedding.
"My children asked us why we didn't get married, what are you waiting for, they asked," explained Lopez.
"We are very happy," the gushing bride expressed.
