World's tallest canine, "Gentle Giant George" is no more!
The sad news was updated by his masters - David and Christie Nasser - on George's official Facebook page: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce Giant George died last night. George passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones; one month before his eighth birthday".
He passed away in his Tuscon home in Arizona.
No sooner the news hit the social media, tributes and condolences streamed from all corners of the world.
This five feet tall and seven ft long blue Great Dane held the Guinness world record for being the tallest in its class. Not just that, it also weighed 100lb more than the average Dane.
Thanks to his towering personality and gentle demeanor, George was a celebrity of sorts and made appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, ABC's Good Morning America and Live with Regis and Kelly.
Not just that, even a book titled “Giant George: Living with the World's Biggest Dog” was penned after him.
