A Cottage Grove man’s effort to draw attention to his medical attention and get kidney donators, by building a five-foot-high smiling snow kidney, is drawing a lot of buzz. Eager, emphatic donators are queuing up in front of his home for support.
Jim Gorbunow says Thursday that media attention to his offbeat sculpture resulted in offers from potential donors around the country.
Gorbunow, who was diagnosed with diabetes at the age 7, underwent a kidney transplant in 2000, and pancreas transplants in 2000 and 2006. But last summer, he again realized that his kidney was failing.
“Gorbunow is directing potential donors to the University of Minnesota donor line where they will be screened for a match. He hopes people who don’t match will consider donating kidneys to the many others who need them,” reports Arizona Central.
