A non-profit volunteer umbrella organization, India Association of Phoenix represents all sister organizations and non-profit organizations of the Indian community in the State of Arizona. The organization is setting up a stage for a huge event named ‘Discover India 2015’ scheduled on 1 November 2015. The event is to be graced by popular artists, and famous personalities. Artists display Indian art at the event, which would even host several other cultural programs. One of the renowned artists to grace the event is Kathak Dancer Shila Mehta.
Rhythm of India invites Shila Mehta
Internationally renowned Kathak dancer, Shila Mehta is recognized and well known for eloquence, artistry, and spirituality in her presentations. She was groomed and trained extensively as an artist with the leading exponents such as Late Pt Prahalad Das, Pt Suresh Talwalkar, Pt Vijai Shankar, Pt Chitresh Das, Pt Birju Maharaj, Smt Kumudini Lakhia and Smt Kalanidhi Narayana.
Shila Mehta won many prestigious awards for both her solo performances and group choreographies, which she presented across the globe. She is a gold medalist for Masters in Fine Arts. The inspirational personality and one of the leading kathak dancers is a rare combination of an artist, an accomplished performer, choreographer, teacher, director and administrator. She has the skill to conduct mass choreography with 1500 participants at a time on a stage. More than 200 compositions were conceived, choreographed and presented by her.
Awards and Achievements
Shila won several honors and awards for solo performances. The artist performed across India, UK, USA, Ireland, Germany, and Middle East. She won awards like Nrtiya Praveen Award in Allahabad, Kala Gurjari Award in Mumbai, Senior Fellowship Award in New Delhi, Outstanding Group of Young Persons’ Award in Kolkata in home land. In US, she won The Overseas Natya Award from Texas. As she is empanelled artist with ICCR, Shila got the honor of performing Solo-Kathak at 17 German cities under the series ‘Culture on Wheels’ at the Government of India’s invitation.
An invitation was sent from ISPA - New York USA to Shila Mehta to attend conference as one of the fellows out of 7 Fellows from all through the globe. Delegates from 35 countries have attended the event.
Discover India 2015 by India Association of Phoenix
Discover India 2015 is an upcoming event of putting up different forms of Indian art and entertainment including dance, music and food.
