Phoenix Union High School Football Game Was Canceled Due To Bacterial Infection

Officials of Phoenix Union High School has announced that Friday’s game between Alhambra and North High School’s varsity’s team has been canceled, as many players of Alhambra athletes contracted a bacterial skin infection known as Impetigo.
Impetigo is a bacterial infection that causes red sores that can break open and ooze fluid, and develop an yellow crust. This is mostly seen in children and is highly contagious and can spread even with close contact, sharing towels, sheets even toys.
According to reports, at least 15 players have been diagnosed with this infection, and they are currently being treated. The first report came when Alhambra’s trainer has noticed some rashes on players.
The rash was described as “Highly Contagious”. These rashes reportedly started appearing last week, the rashes appeared on the elbows and forearms of players. And those effected by this infection are instructed to see a health care provider immediately.
The school officials said that Alhambra High School Custodial crews, along with district facilities services, have been disinfecting and sanitizing the school locker room, weight room, classrooms, and common areas that may have been exposed to bacteria.
The game according to the statement, has been rescheduled for Oct 13, when both the teams, under their original schedule, had byes in the schedule, and this new schedule falls on school’s fall break.
