On Sunday Morning, more than 40 flights were diverted from Sky Harbor after a fire alarm was activated in control room.
Airport officials said that as a precaution air traffic control tower was evacuated. Due to this situation, more than 40 inbound aircraft were diverted to nearby airports.
Phoenix fire department says that this issue in the control tower was caused due to malfunction in an air handler that was off-gassing steam; this problem has caused the sensors to set the alarm off.
Airport officials said that now the situation is under control and all the tower employees are now returning to towers.
