The Kremlin on Monday denied US media reports of a conversation between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, saying it was a "total lie" and "disinformation". Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Sunday denied a Washington Post report that Trump had spoken to Putin for the first time since his victory in the last presidential election. American newspapers report that Trump urged Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine. Peskov said that there was no dialogue between the two leaders and that all reports about this were false. "This is a very clear example of the quality of information published now, sometimes even in the most famous media. This is completely untrue. This is pure fantasy. This is just disinformation," Peskov told reporters, as quoted by Russia's Sputnik.
The Kremlin spokesman made it clear that there are no specific plans for talks between Putin and Trump. The announcement comes amid widespread uncertainty about how Trump will follow through on his promise to immediately end the war in Ukraine. The Washington Post reported that Trump spoke with the Russian leader at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and reminded him of the significant US military presence in Europe. The two leaders also discussed the goal of peace on the European continent, with Trump expressing his interest in continuing talks to discuss "an early resolution to the war in Ukraine." Before taking office in January, Ukraine privately indicated that it supported keeping some of the territories occupied by the Russians and an agreement that briefly touched on the land issue.
President Trump said he has met with about 70 world leaders since his election victory, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Two people involved in the matter said Ukrainian officials knew about the phone call between Trump and Putin and had no objection to the meeting. According to a recent report in the Telegraph, Trump's aides said Trump's plan would include creating an 800-mile buffer zone between European and British forces, as well as Russian and Ukrainian forces, to stop the war. The new law would mean Russia could keep its territorial gains and Kiev could say goodbye to its 20-year plan to join NATO.
Additionally, the United States will not deploy troops to patrol or monitor the buffer zone. “We can provide other training and support, but the muzzles will be European,” a member of Trump's campaign team told the Wall Street Journal. We are not sending American men and women to keep the peace in Ukraine. Let the Poles, the Germans, the British and the French do it for free, but warned that it is difficult to predict how Trump will do in office. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with state media published on Sunday: “This is an agreement that can lead to peace.”
The Kremlin has pledged to support Harris in the US presidential election, but it is widely believed that it actually wants Trump back in the White House and that it also wants Trump back in the White House. On June 14, President Putin offered conditions for ending the war. Ukraine should abandon its NATO ambitions and withdraw all its forces from all four Russian-claimed territories. However, President Zelensky rejected this condition and strongly opposes handing over the territory to President Vladimir Putin.
