Health issues and rapidly spreading diseases including HINI are becoming pain in the neck of the UPA. That’s probably one of the reasons for the Centre for coming out with statement—giving equal medical care to everyone is the prime duty of the Centre.

The union health minister, Gulam Nabi Azad has said that the Centre would soon undertake a city health project just like national health security to ensure that everyone gets proper medical care without any bias.  Speaking at a public conference in Delhi, Mr. Azad said the Centre earlier undertook health projects in villages and now it will focus on urban areas.

“The Government of India accords great importance to ensuring equitable health care to all its citizens. The National Rural Health Mission, one of the largest public health programmes, is an ambitious multi-sectoral initiative taken by the Government of India in 2005-06 to make essential health care available, accessible and affordable to the rural citizens,” said Azad.

Azad on Tuesday inaugurated WHO’s South-East Asia Region Meet on Universal Health Care. Azad has said that people spending out people in India spend a lot on health compared to anywhere in the world. He said necessary steps will be taken to minimize the expenditure and provide universal health care.
