The Omicron variant created a huge surge in the new cases of coronavirus. The cases have seen a huge rise in all the countries and India is no exception. The third wave of coronavirus started in the states of Maharashtra, New Delhi and Karnataka. All these states reported huge number of new cases in the last one week. But there are debates going on that the Omicron variant is not dangerous and the chances of hospitalization is quite low. The spread is huge but the risk is low, told many reports. But the World Health Organization said that the Omicron variant cannot be called mild. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the new variant is competing with the Delta variant in most of the nations.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said "The Omicron variant may appear to be less severe when compared to Delta among those who already took their vaccination doses. But it should not be called mild. The Omicron variant is also leading to hospitalization and it is killing people. Close to 9.5 million coronavirus cases are reported in a week across the globe and they are 71 percent more than the previous week's cases. The countries should vaccinate the people all over and the people should be extra cautious. They should wear facemasks and be disciplined. 70 percent of the people in each nation should be vaccinated by the mid of 2022".
