TJAC appeals youth not to commit suicides April 12, 2012 10:16
The Telangana issue has hit the headlines yet another time with Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman, Prof. Kodandaram reiterating that they are all set to intensify the movement for a separate statehood. He called upon the pro-Telangana youths not to commit suicides and stressed that they would achieve T State. He addressed the media after he kick started a bus rally in Hyderabad on Wednesday at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park of Hyderabad. Elucidating the reason for starting bus rally, Kodandaram stressed that they were taking out this rally for exerting pressure of TDP and Congress Party. To make a point, Kodandaram has said that as many as 862 people allegedly killed themselves for the cause of separate statehood. He expressed his grief stating that 13 persons committed suicides after hearing the irresponsible statements by some politicians after by-polls. Meanwhile, TNGO state president Swamy Goud has said that they were ready for any sort of sacrifices for Telangana cause. He has pointed out at the loss that they faced during 42 days strike a few months back over the same issue. Also, he mentioned that they were even ready to face many such losses for a separate state. While political parties are reportedly playing games with youths and their sentiments, it is the duty of every youth and citizen to notice and put a check to the same. Youths should not come under provocative statements of political leaders. Everyone should stand up for establishing peace and tranquility. (Phani)

Curfew would be relaxed in riot hit areas of Madannapet and Saidabad of Hyderabad on Thursday, the police said. The curfew relaxation timings are from 9 AM to 5 PM. This news seemed to have brought relief to many old city residents. It may be noted that the curfew was relaxed for about four hours between 11 AM and 3 PM on Tuesday in these areas keeping in view the problems being faced by the public for the past two days. If the situation continues to be peaceful then the police are likely to life the curfew permanently in presumably two days, sources said. It is known that communal clashes broke out in peaceful Hyderabad four days ago at several worship places in Madannapet and Saidabad areas. To control the situation, Hyderabad police that plunged into the action has imposed CrPC Sec 144 in order to maintain law and order besides imposing curfew in these two areas where riots took place. Although the situation limped back to normalcy in almost all areas of Hyderabad within a day after riots took place, tense atmosphere still prevails in the above mentioned areas due to the ongoing curfew. The police, on the other hand, took a couple of people into their custody after they acquired key documents to prove that miscreants were guilty of the offence. (Phani)

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation looks like not interested in carrying out the rule regarding the ban on usage of plastic carry bags.In the last year (i.e) from July 1, the ban on usage of plastic carry bags came into effect, with the admirable wish of phasing out non-biodegradable and environmentally unsafe plastic carry bags, has ended up and which is now helping out the retailers to make money by selling the carry bags to the customers. However the ban on usage of plastic carry bags has totally failed to reduce the environmental pollution. What’s more, the traders are also causing a loss to GHMC as they are not paying a single paisa to the civic body on advertisements printed on carry bags. As per GHMC rules, any display of advertisement either on carry bags, walls, and hoardings in public, attracts advertisement fee. Though the GHMC had made it mandatory for manufacturers to print their name and registration number on plastic carry bags they sell so that people can complain if the bags lack specified thickness, banned plastic carry bags with fake registration numbers or without any registration number, are in circulation. However, big showrooms like Hyderabad Central, RS Brothers, and Big Bazaar among others are using above-40 micron plastic carry bags. The GHMC has also failed to monitor whether retail outlets are offering incentives to customers using their own cloth and other environment-friendly carry bags. Most shops have upgraded their billing software to include charges for carry bags of the mandated thickness sold to customers. It was also made mandatory for traders to install boards at cash counters specifying the rates of carry bags that will be included in the bill. The penalty for violating this was a fine of Rs 5,000 for the first offence and cancellation of the trade licence for a repeated offence. However, nothing of this sort has been enforced. Sources said about 2,500-odd plastic carry bag manufacturing units in and around the city are functioning without obtaining the mandatory registration number from the Pollution Control Board. The GHMC additional commissioner (health and sanitation), Mr L. Vandan Kumar, admitted that the plastic ban enforcement has slowed down considerably. He also mentioned that "We will set up a special team and very soon will start raiding the plastic manufacturing units wholesalers and dealers which is in and around the city".
