Actress Nayanthara has issued an apology regarding the controversy surrounding her film 'Annapoorani'. The film faced backlash from certain Hindu groups who accused it of spreading "anti-Hindu" propaganda. Netflix subsequently removed the film from its platform. Nayanthara took to Instagram to express her remorse, sharing a post with the Hindu religious symbol 'Om' and the phrase 'Jai Shri Ram'. In her statement, she explained that the film's team did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments and emphasized their respect for religion. She also mentioned her own devotion to God and frequent visits to temples.

The plot of 'Annapoorani' revolves around the character played by Nayanthara, a Brahmin girl seeking to become a top chef. The film explores her struggles between her passion for cooking and the orthodox ideals she is expected to adhere to. A scene in the film where her classmate convinces her to try meat and mentions that Lord Ram also consumed it drew particular controversy. Ramesh Solanki, founder of the Hindu IT cell, expressed his objection to the film on social media and filed a complaint with the police. An FIR (First Information Report) was subsequently filed against Nayanthara, the actor Jai, writer-director Nilesh Krishna, producers Jatin Sethi, R Ravindran, and Punit Goenka, Zee Studios Chief Business Officer Shariq Patel, and Netflix India's head, Monika Shergill.
Nayanthara clarified that the film's intention was to spread a positive message and uplift viewers. She expressed deep regret for any hurt caused and extended her heartfelt apologies to those whose sentiments were affected. She reiterated her commitment to promoting positivity and learning through her work in the film industry.
