An astonishing survey has revealed that gorging on smoothies, dried nuts, and low fat foods can actually pile on more kilos on your body than you ever imagined.
Diet experts at Tesco revealed that so called weight-friendly foods like olive oil, fruit juice, dry fruits, granola bars, nuts and low-fat cookies can do more harm than good for the weight-watchers.
Enlightening us on this, Catherine Matthews, a nutritionist with the supermarket, said: “You may think a fruit or veggie smoothie is packed with vitamins and minerals, but it’s also laden with sugar. Some contain as much sugar as fizzy drinks.”

Similarly, a teaspoon of olive oil contains 50 calories, while fruit juices contain up to 150 calories, which is more than a can of Coke.
Even the so-called “low-fat” products contain more calories than their wholesome counterparts, as manufacturers load them up with excess sugar to make up for the loss of flavor.
Miss Matthews advised that people wanting to lose weight should opt for high-protein breakfast such as eggs that had more satiety level than any other food. She also recommended a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables and suggested in sipping water throughout the day.
