The researchers of Louisiana State University have revealed that consumption of high fat diet may harm your mental health, potentially leading to depression. It can also increase anxiety, impaired memory, and repetitive behavior.

The human microbiome consists of trillions of microorganisms, many of which reside in the intestinal tract. These microbiotas are essential for normal physiological functioning. However, research has suggested that alterations in the microbiome may underlie the host’s susceptibility to illness, including neuropsychiatric impairment.

The research was carried out in a non obese mice were conventionally housed and maintained on a normal diet, but received a transplant of gut microbiota from donor mice that had been fed either a high-fat diet or control diet. The mice were examined for the changes in its behavior.

It was observed that the mice who received microbiota shaped by high fat diet had shown multiple behaviors like increased anxiety, impaired memory and repetitive behaviors. Even the brain functions were also altered in the absence of obesity.

The study provides evidence that the changes in diet to the gut of microbiome are sufficient to alter brain function even in the absence of obesity. So to avoid all these risks start taking only healthy diet to stay healthy.
