Acclaimed singer Lata Mangeshkar will be conferred with the first National Yash Chopra Memorial Award.
Businessman-politician T Subbarami Reddy, who has made Hindi movies like Vijay, Chandni and Lamhe with Yash Chopra has launched the award in memory of the late filmmaker.
Initiated by Reddy-led TSR Foundation, the award will be conferred each year to an outstanding film personality for his/her extraordinary achievements in movies.
Talking about the award, Reddy, a Congressman, revealed, "The award commemorates Yash Chopra's contribution to cinema. We were very close friends. He was a very good human being and a talented filmmaker.”
"In the first year we are giving this to Lata Mangeshkar for her immense contribution to cinema. She was very close to Yashji and she has sung for almost all his films," Reddy added.
The award ceremony will take place on October 21, the day he died every year.
The esteemed jury members of the award committee include celebrities like Hema Malini, Simi Garewal and Anil Kapoor.
