Young batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who mesmerized with his neat cricketing in England and in Australia, was conferred with CEAT Indian Cricketer of the Year. Former captain of Sri Lankan cricket team, Kumar Sangakkara was bestowed with the International Cricketer of the Year award, at the same event former skipper of Indian team Kapil Dev was honoured with the International Lifetime Achievement Award yesterday in Mumbai.
While, Indian batsman Rohit Sharma, who scored two double tons, was given a special award for his outstanding 264 against Sri Lanka.
Rahane said, "I enjoyed playing in England and Australia. The 103 I made at Lord's was very important to me. Scoring runs for team and also for winning cause is special to me." He was given the award by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
The captain of IPL 8’s winning team Rohit Sharma said, "We did not get a good start to the IPL season but we got the momentum in the later part of the season. We played as a group and won the second IPL crown."
CEAT award winners includes Hashim Amla- International Batsman of the Year, Rangana Herath- International Bowler of the Year, Dwayne Bravo- Twenty20 Player of the Year, Kieron Pollard- Popular Choice Award, R Vinay Kumar- Domestic Cricket of the Year and Deepak Hooda for Young Player of the Year.
