After a stunning victory of West Indies in the ICC World T20 2016 final against England, West Indies skipper Darren Sammy launched an emotional speech. He attacked West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for failing to communicate with them and termed the attitude ‘disappointing’.
At the post match presentation ceremony, Sammy said that they are yet to here from WICB, clearing that the disputes is not sorted out yet. Sammy said, "People were wondering we would plays this tournament, we had issues with the board, Mark Nicholas called us players with no brain. But all of us came together, these 15 men put adversity aside, play this type of cricket in front of such passionate fans. It was tremendous. I want to thank the coaching team, Phil Simmons."
Hours later, the West Indies board publicly reprimanded captain Darren Sammy. WICB President Whycliffe Dave Cameron took offense at Sammy's remarks. He tweeted saying, "When is the last time a critic paid one of your bills? Always remember that when you start to give them your energy."
WICB also released a statement headlined 'WICB President has high praises for World Twenty20 Organisers'
The statement said, "The President would like to however apologise for what could be deemed inappropriate comments made by the West Indies' male captain, Darren Sammy, in a post-match interview and would like to apologise on behalf of the WICB to the millions of fans who witnessed (sic). The President has pledged to enquire the reason and will have the matter addressed."
Player of ICC World T20 2016 -Virat Kohli
Indian batsman Virat Kohli is named as the Player of the Tournament award at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, after the ICC World T20 2016. Kohli is the second highest scorer in the tournament with 273 runs in five innings. He showed a breathtaking average of 136.50 with three fifties. The selection panel including Nasser Hussain, Sanjay Manjrekar, Ian Bishop, Mel Jones, and Lisa Sthalekar has unanimously selected Kohli for the award.
Though Virat could not collect the award in person, he conveyed message saying that, “Although I'm disappointed that we were not able to make it through to the final and win the ICC World Twenty20 title on home soil, I'm proud to be named player of the tournament. As a team, we have all loved the experience of playing in this event in front of big, passionate home crowds and I'm pleased the tournament in India has been successfully staged. And I'd like to add my congratulations to the West Indies men's and women's squads for their successes."
