New Zealand star cricketer Kane Williamson today announced that he would step down as the test captain of the team. The 32-year-old star cricketer has been the in charge of the Kiwis and is leading the team from the past six years. Kane Williamson said that he would continue to lead the team in the ODIs and T20s. The New Zealand Cricket Board announced that Tim Southee will lead the team in the test format. Kane Williamson is one of the finest captains of the country and New Zealand is on the top in the Test Rankings under his captaincy. The team also emerged as the winner in the ICC Test Championship. New Zealand emerged as the winner last year after beating India in the final.
Kane Williamson called it an incredibly special honour to lead the team of New Zealand. "Captaincy is an extra workload in and out the field. At this stage in my career, my decision is right and I will continue to serve the team in the tests. I will continue to lead the team in one-days and T20s after the talks with the board followed. I am expecting to continue to lead the team for the next two years" told Kane Williamson. He won 22 matches out of the 40 tests played by New Zealand under his captaincy. Out of his 24 test centuries, eleven of them came when he was leading the team. This is a new record for any New Zealand captain. 34-year-old Tim Southee will lead the team in their upcoming Pakistan tour. New Zealand will play three test matches starting from December 26th. Tom Latham will be the new vice-captain of New Zealand.
