Delhi Dare Devils opened their account with a win in the Second Indian Premier League match played at Kolkata on Thursday. Delhi played against the hosts Kolkata Knight Riders in the Eden Gardens. Rain had taken the toll on the match which was reduced to just 12 overs. KKR batted or rather battled first gave a brave face in spite of the enduring weather conditions.
KKR made 97 runs for 9 wickets. The batting performance was spearheaded by Shukla, who score 26 followed by Das with 18 and Gambhir scored 16 runs. The rest succumbed badly. On the bowling front DDD bowlers Morne Morkel scalped three wickets 3 for 18 runs, while Umesh Yadav and Roelof van der Merwe bagged two wickets apiece to restrict the Knight Riders to 97 for nine after they were put into bat following a two-and-half hours rain delay.
On the contrary the DDD played a classy cricket and scored 98 by losing just 2 wickets, in the 11.1 overs. The splendid knock of Irfan Pathan was mesmerising and befitting for a win. He scored 42 runs and remained not out. Sehwag scored 20 and Finch scored 30 runs to win the match comfortably. The second half of the match had some scintillating performance as the DDD dominated and KKR succumbed. Not much could be said about the bowling too.
