On the court, the UBC men's volleyball team were not kind hosts to China’s visiting Fudan University team; the T-Birds swept the visitors in three consecutive sets on Saturday night at War Memorial Gym. It was the first game in a short two-game exhibition series, with game two set for Wednesday night at UBC. The lopsided score didn’t reflect how close all three sets were. After the Thunderbirds took the first set by a score of 25-17, the second and third were decided by a total of four points. Despite Fudan leading for the majority of each set, UBC was able to make a late charge and win each set by a score of 25-23. After a disappointing performance on Friday night’s exhibition game when they fell to UBC Okanagan three sets to one, Saturday’s stellar performance was a good rebound in the eyes of head coach Richard Schick. “What we talked about this morning was, how are we going to close out sets?” said Schick after the game. “The block at 3-3 or 6-6 isn’t the same as the block or the attack at 23-all. That’s where legends are made.
