Jwala Gutta, best known for her double acts in Badminton matches, faces a ban for offending the IBL governing council. She recently played the Indian Badminton League (IBL) and the Badminton Association of India (BAI) issued a show cause notice to Jwala in relation to a match delay on 25th August.
Jwala is never a person to mince words. On the fateful day, she reportedly exchanged an offensive play of words with the Governing Council members, said tournament referee Girish Natu in his report. The argument was the result of replacing Denmark player Jan O Jorgensen with Hong Kong player Hu Yun of Banga Beats at the last minute.
The heated argument led to a 30 minute delay to the match, which did not go down well with the organizers. Even the TV broadcasters threatened to walk away due to the delay. In his report, the referee alleged Jwala was the primary reason for the delay. Jwala was sent notices by the BAI's disciplinary committee on 3rd September and the player is supposed to respond within 14 days.
Jwala Gutta had, reportedly, caused “harm to the spirit and interest of the tournament,” and would be facing a ban after her explanation. The Delhi team is working towards Jwala's case.
