The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started discussions with Byju Raveendran to resolve an ongoing dispute with Think and Learn Private Limited. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing BCCI mentioned that talks were underway and the case is expected to be heard soon. The NCLAT postponed the hearing till July 31. Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi represented the US-based lenders, mentioning that they are appealing against the insolvency order. The NCLAT agreed to review all applications on July 31. Justice Sharad Kumar Sharma of NCLAT excused himself from presiding over Byju Raveendran's plea against Think and Learn's bankruptcy admission due to his prior involvement as a senior counsel for BCCI, which is a significant party in this case.
On July 16th, the Board of Control for Cricket in India dealt with the issue of a pending payment of Rs 158 crore. On July 26th, the Karnataka High Court postponed Raveendran's request to halt the decision that brought Think and Learn Private Limited into insolvency, to July 30th. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi represented Raveendran and stated that the NCLAT bench delayed the appeal to review a judge's recusal. Singhvi expressed concern that if the Committee of Creditors was formed in the meantime, the company would face irreversible consequences with no room for remedy. He highlighted the urgency to halt the formation of the Committee of Creditors until the NCLAT made a final decision on Byju's appeal. Raveendran has two petitions in the Karnataka High Court, one to challenge the order's validity, and the other to suspend the order until a decision is made by the NCLAT.
