Zoom announced new artificial intelligence (AI) features for its platform at its annual Zoomtopia event on Wednesday. The video conferencing platform is now introducing AI Companion 2.0, a second-generation artificial intelligence assistant that can now handle more tasks. It's now available on Zoom Workplace, the company's AI-powered collaboration platform, giving you access to Zoom emails, Zoom tasks, and more. Additionally, the company has also launched custom AI avatars. It allows users to record videos and create an artificial intelligence clone of themselves that can speak in a similar voice. In a newsroom post, the company announced a new AI assistant for its Zoom Workplace platform. It is similar to Gemini Assistant on Android smartphones and Copilot on AI PCs. AI Companion is the main hub for most of the AI features the company has added. Users can use it to summarize documents and generate texts. With the second iteration of the AI Assistant, Workplace users can now access quick suggestions in the side panel across all Zoom platforms. Users can also expand their knowledge base by connecting to Gmail, Microsoft Outlook and other similar applications. Assistant can also summarize unread messages in a Zoom Teams chat channel or email threads in Zoom Mail.

In a Zoom call, your AI assistant can now search the internet to answer questions outside of the session. Therefore, participants can ask the AI questions about general knowledge or current events during the session. AI Companion 2.0 can answer questions about what was discussed in the meeting even after the meeting ends. Additionally, AI conversations are now referenceable even after the session ends. Another cool feature announced at the event was custom avatars for Zoom clips. It allows users to record video clips that are processed by an artificial intelligence model to generate an avatar. Only the upper body of the avatar including head, shoulders and arms can be seen. This feature can also produce sounds similar to the user. Users can add text scripts and the AI avatar can speak and sync accordingly. The feature was announced at the Zoomtopia event, but won't be available to users until 2025.
