The monsoon season in India offers relief from the scorching summer heat, but increased humidity and sudden rains also present unique aesthetic challenges. Keeping your makeup fresh and flawless can be difficult in these conditions, but with the right techniques and products you can look effortlessly beautiful all the season long. Here are some top tips to tackle monsoon beauty challenges from beauty experts Prishé Beauty, and Kriti Sahney, Brand and Communication Manager, Kanvar Group.
Prime and preparation: Nagar recommends starting your routine by gently washing your face with an oil-free face wash to remove excess oil. Then set your makeup base with a good foundation and an oil-free moisturizer to ensure a flawless, all-day makeup look. Sahney added that using a silicone-based hydrating primer can create a barrier against moisture, smooth skin, and help your makeup stay in place.
Aim for waterproofing: Both experts agree on the importance of waterproof formulations. Nagar recommends opting for waterproof accessories like mascara, eyeliner, and foundation to prevent smudging and ensure your makeup stays put even in the rain. Sahney agrees, emphasizing the need for a long-lasting, smudge-proof and smudge-proof liquid eyeliner and mascara.
Light and minimal: During the monsoon: less is more. Pralambika recommends choosing a lightweight, matte foundation or BB cream that provides coverage without weighing you down. Tinted moisturizers with SPF are also great for a natural look. Kriti recommends using tinted sunscreens or lightly tinted moisturizers to ensure full coverage and UV protection and prevent makeup from melting in the humidity.
Matte finish: To prevent makeup from melting in the rain, Pralambika recommends avoiding cream-based products. Instead, use a powder-based eyeshadow and blush, and apply a translucent powder specifically to your T-zone to set your glow and makeup. Liquid or gel blush provides a natural, dewy look, blends easily, and is great for humid weather, adds Kriti.
Vibrant Lips: Bright shades can lift your mood on a dull day. Pralambika recommends choosing matte lipsticks in bold colors like coral or pink, which add brightness and don't smudge in humid environments. Kriti recommends choosing a matte liquid lipstick that won't smudge or budge even on rainy days, then topping it with a light, non-sticky gloss to add a touch of glamour.
Shine Control: Moisture can make your skin look shiny. Pralambika recommends keeping blotting wipes handy so you can do quick touch-ups without damaging your makeup. Then mattify the T-zone with a transparent powder. Kriti also emphasizes on using blotters and clarifying powders to control shine and maintain a flawless finish.
Setting Spray: To keep your makeup in place, Pralambika recommends using a setting spray. This important step will keep your makeup looking fresh all day long. Kriti recommends choosing a setting spray for humid environments, preferably a matte one, to control oil and shine while ensuring a long-lasting, flawless finish.
Hair Care: Frizz management is very important during monsoons. To keep your hair smooth and manageable even in humid weather, Pralambika recommends using an anti-frizz serum and opting for simple hairstyles like braids or ponytails.
