Analysis
Ruler has an interesting plot and the first half of the film sounds pretty impressive. Laced with all the commercial elements, Balakrishna's stylish looks and his presentation are the major highlights. The songs have been shot well and the performances of the lead actors carry the film further. The interval episodes are quite powerful and elevate the film well. On the whole, the first half of Ruler happens to be decent and it keeps good expectations on the second half.
The second half of Ruler fails to make the needed impact. Balakrishna looks rough as Dharma which will not appeal to the audience. The entire second half looks loud and is filled with unwanted mass elements. The songs have been canned well though they do not sound good. The pre-climax episodes are quite boring. The climax of Ruler is decent but the second half of Ruler fails to live up the expectations.
Performance
Balakrishna roars loud in the dual roles in the film. He looks ultra-stylish as Arjun Prasad and he looks massy in the role of Dharma. He assigned both the roles with utmost perfection. Vedhika and Sonal Chauhan have been glamorous to the core and are a treat for the masses. Prakash Raj, Jayasudha played powerful and prominent roles. Bhoomika steps out in one more interesting role and she did it with utmost perfection. All the other actors have been good.
Ruler has a powerful plot. KS Ravikumar and his team step out with an outdated treatment and boring narration that makes the film fall flat. The screenplay and dialogues should have been better. The editing work looks crisp and the production values are grand. The music looks appealing and the cinematography work is good. Director KS Ravikumar spoils Ruler with his outdated narration and presentation.
Final Word
Balakrishna roars loud with his performance but this alone cannot save Ruler because of the outdated narration.
